Audiogalaxy
This is what we’ve all been dreaming of for years, and finally, at the end of 2010, it came true. Audiogalaxy is an amazing application that was once a peer-to-peer music-download service before getting shut down in the early aughts. Now it is an app that scans your iTunes collection at home and streams it to a companion app on your Android or iPhone.
As long as you have your home computer connected to the Internet and the Audiogalaxy app running, you can listen to your entire music library from anywhere. Oh, and Audiogalaxy scrobbles to Last.FM, which is why for most audiophile technerds like me, it wins out over anything else that might be similar. For more info, search it on Lifehacker.
While nothing else is nearly as stunning as Audiogalaxy right now, here’s ten more music-related apps you can’t live without:
* Last.FM — streams music you like, music your trusted friends like; recommends stuff you will soon like; lets you know which acts are on tour and when they will be in your neck of the woods.
* MoodAgent – creates playlists from your iPhone music library based on whatever mood you set on the app: from sunny and in love to rainy and heartbroken.
* Ocarina – a magical, ancient little wind instrument you can play by blowing into your iPhone. Share your best works with the global Ocarina community and listen to others’ compositions. Best buck you’ll ever spend.
* Bebot Robot Synth — a silly app with a synth and a little moving robot you’d swear Robert Moog came up with.
* iTwines - click a button and Tweet what you’re listening to.
* Vevo – tired of watching all those crappy music videos on Youtube. Vevo is a must.
* Slacker – an alternative to Last.FM and Pandora.
* Public Radio — streams audio from some 500 public radio stations around the U.S.
* I Am T-Pain — in which you, too, can auto-tune yourself just like T-Pain.
* Bloom – Minimalism on the iPhone; sounds good, looks good. Sure, this app’s been around for a while, but it’s Eno, and this is Option. You gotta have it.
